Tonight, at St. John’s Co-Cathedral, Malta Enterprise on the occasion of its 20th anniversary will be organising a concert 'Laudete Dominum' which will offer not just an evening of captivating music but a chance to make a real difference in the lives of children like Nicky Bisazza.
Nicky's journey began in April 2022, when he was just nine. Diagnosed with what was thought to be glandular fever, his health rapidly declined, leaving his family facing an unexpected battle. As more tests were conducted, the unthinkable became reality: Nicky was diagnosed with Non-Hodgkins Burkitt’s Leukemia at Stage 4 C3—the most aggressive form of cancer. This brave boy and his family were thrust into a relentless cycle of hospital visits, chemotherapy sessions, and the harsh reality of fighting for his life.
For months, Nicky endured intense treatments, and at times, his condition was critical. But amidst the darkness, a light of hope was sparked when someone from the Children in Need Foundation walked into his hospital room with a promise—a fully funded trip to Disneyland for Nicky and his family once his treatment ended. Though weak from the effects of chemotherapy, that promise of a trip to the happiest place on earth brought a brief sparkle to Nicky’s eyes.
After five and a half months as an inpatient, on January 9, 2023, Nicky was finally discharged from Rainbow Ward, Malta’s paediatric oncology ward, beginning his road to recovery. As his health improved, the Disneyland trip turned into a reality. In July, just a week before his 12th birthday, Nicky and his family were able to experience four magical days in Disneyland, thanks to the Children in Need Foundation.
“It was a holiday like no other,” says Nicky's father. “Everything was taken care of—flights, hotel, rides, meals. It allowed us to truly relax and create beautiful memories as a family after months of distress and separation.”
This is the impact of the Children in Need Foundation—bringing moments of joy to families facing some of life's toughest battles. And tonight, you have the chance to support this life-changing work by attending the 'Laudete Dominum' concert.
Organized by Malta Enterprise, this annual CSR event aims to raise funds for the foundation and give hope to more children like Nicky. By joining the audience tonight, you’ll not only experience a night of beautiful music from soprano Nicola Said, tenor Cliff Zammit Stevens, and the Jubilate Deo Choir (featuring the Pueri Cantores Children's Choir led by Daniela Ellul), but you’ll also be making a real difference.
