A diver has died and another is in serious condition, the police said on Saturday afternoon.
The police said the two men, whose identity is still not known, found themselves in difficulty while diving in Marsascala at 10.30am.
The two divers were assisted by members of the Armed Forces of Malta some 1.4 nautical miles off Zonqor Point, and they were taken ashore.
The two men were taken to Mater Dei Hospital, with one of them certified dead some time later.
The second diver is in a serious condition.
Magistrate Joseph Mifsud is leading an inquiry.
