The Malta Independent website has been spoofed.

Over the past hours this media house has received information about a story which is appearing under The Malta Independent logo.

The story carried comments from KM Malta Airlines CEO David Curmi telling people how to make easy money.

The story is completely fake,

It is an example of what is known as spoofing, which involves a cybercriminal masquerading as a trusted entity to get users to do something beneficial to the hacker — and detrimental to them.

This is not the first time that The Malta Independent was victim of such practice. In 2022 something similar had taken place, with an invented story about then President George Vella encouraging people to invest their money on an online trading platform.

That story was fake too.
