The Attorney General has stopped the State Advocate from appealing against a court decision which has given disgraced former Prime Minister Joseph Muscat access to part of the Vitals magisterial inquiry report, Repubblika said Friday.

A court on Thursday ruled that Muscat is given access to the documents in the inquiry in which he is mentioned. Muscat is charged, along with others, with bribery and criminal association.

In a post on Facebook, Repubblika honorary president Robert Aquilina said that the AG on Friday stopped the State Advocate from appealing the judgment.

This is scandalous, Aquilina said, describing is as a sabotage of the magisterial inquiry by the AG. “This is a manipulation by Victoria Buttigieg to help Joseph Muscat and his accomplices escape justice,” Aquilina said.

As a result of this, Repubblika filed a judicial protest to object to this “obscene action” and to insist that, as an organisation which had initially called for the inquiry to take place, it is given access of the inquiry’s report (proces verbal).

The NGO said it will support State officers who carry out their duties with integrity, “we will continue to expose and hold responsible whoever betrays the oath of office taken and instead serve to prop up whoever is accused of serious crimes against the people.”

The protest was signed by Jason Azzopardi.
