Disgraced former Prime Minister Joseph Muscat has said that the authorities are making him appear akin to Toto Riina, given the charges laid against him and a freezing order amounting to €30 million.

Toto Riina, one of the most feared Sicilian Mafia bosses, managed to evade capture for decades.

Muscat made these comments during an interview on Fliving by channel owner Karl Bonaci.

Prior to commencing the interview , Bonaci said that he is a presenter, not a journalist, and that the station operates independently. Muscat felt comfortable fielding puerile questions with answers that remained unchallenged.

During the interview, Muscat expressed certainty that this case would conclude similarly to the Egrant case, with him being found innocent.

He also said that following clearance from these charges, he, together with the PL and the nation, will emerge 'stronger' than ever after this.

On this note, he declared that if found guilty, he believes he deserves more than 18 years' imprisonment and that he should emerge from prison in a coffin after serving a life sentence.

Muscat mentioned that during the Egrant case, he had also challenged opposition leader Simon Busuttil to resign if found not guilty, which Busuttil did not accept. Referring to the €11 million price tag for the magisterial inquiry into the Vitals deal, he said that if found not guilty, he would take every necessary legal step to make "those who instigated this" pay for the expenses incurred from taxpayer's money.

Asked about the court's ruling declaring the hospital deal fraudulent, Muscat expressed disagreement with the Labour government's decision not to challenge the court ruling and defend the deal, as he believes it was above board.

Furthermore, regarding the amount of freezing orders issued by the court concurrently with the charges after the conclusion of the magisterial inquiry, Muscat stated that it does not make sense. Besides pointing out that he does not even possess a total of €1 million to his name, he remarked that the total of €550 million in freezing orders for an alleged theft of €400 million would imply that more commission was given than stolen, adding that this would not make sense.
