Erik Azzopardi is a 22-year-old youth and his greatest pleasure is to be out and about with his friends while football is his greatest love and during the festa season he starts a countdown to the approach of the feast of St Helen at Birkirkara.
At the age of ten, Erik was ready to challenge the world until one day his whole life changed dramatically when his mother was pronounced as being diabetic and from that day onward his mother embarked on a constant struggle against a number of conditions until at the age of 55 she passed away a month ago today.
In comments to tvm.com.mt, Erik stated that not one second passes without him missing his mother. He said that every time he returns home he finds complete silence which is heartbreaking although he was always aware that during the last 13 years his mother struggled against her relentless medical conditions and that finally her passing away relieved her of her Calvary.
Against this background and with his father’s help he has found the courage to face reality and has managed to smile his characteristic smile occasionally.
In the light of the circumstances of Covid-19, Erik said the present situation should be taken as the opportune moment because once families are gathered in their own home they have the opportunity to treasure each other gathered under one roof, to look after their health and to remain united. He said such values in the modern pace of life are often forgotten and overlooked.
