The next weeks are more likely to reflect more than other times on suffering. In light of this the National Blood Transfusion Service said that in one way or another it is worth emphasising that one of the greatest sufferings is disease, including cancer, which often requires blood transfusions.
During this difficult time blood transfusions are an essential service for those in need and with this in mind and in a show of solidarity with these patients, healthy, eligible individuals are being encouraged by the Service to please donate at a session on Tuesday, the 7th of April, at the Blood Donation Centre in Xewkija, Gozo, between 1:00pm and 5:00pm (last registration until 1:00pm).
The Service said that if the outbreak of coronavirus continues to spread, additional challenges may arise, which could potentially reduce the number of eligible donors.
Since it is the blood already on the shelves that saves lives, maintaining a sufficient blood supply is essential to ensure patients in need receive optimal treatment, the Service said.
The donation centre is located at the Xewkija Clinic, in Triq tall- Hamrija, between the Primary School and the Bocci Club.
Please read coronavirus guidelines before going to donate blood
The Service advised that if anyone has any questions about blood donation in connection with Covid-19 they are invited to call between 8am until 6pm on 80074313 of 79307307 or for more information. As a basic rule, anyone who is in quarantine can not give blood.
The Service reminds everyone that it is important to always take your Identity Card, or Driving License or Maltese Passport and to drink plenty of water beforehand.
