Opposition and Nationalist Party leader Adrian Delia stated he will soon be announcing changes in the portfolios of Opposition speakers in a number of areas. Dr Delia said the new shadow cabinet would focus on the environment, local government, the digital society and sustainable pensions.
Interviewed on NET FM, the PN leader reiterated that the three assistance packages announced by the Government will only help 60,000 workers, and another 110,000 will not be helped. Delia again accused Government that through the contract with Vitals it betrayed the people when paying millions of euro which could have been spent on the people’s needs.
Whilst praising health sector staff for their dedication, the Opposition leader accused the Government of having delayed in deciding on the closing down of schools and businesses, and of having made a U-turn on the lockdown for the over-65s and vulnerable persons.
Dr Delia stated that the international prices of oil and gas have dropped drastically, and if one were to convert this reduction into the bills, the consumer would enjoy eight months with a 50% drop in the cost of electricity. The PN leader added that although this would show a saving in excess of 86 million euro, the Government cannot reduce the bills as it had left control in the hands of the Chinese when it sold them part of Enemalta.
Dr Delia criticised those taking advantage of the situation by increasing prices, adding that the Opposition supports any assistance given to businesses, but it is unjust and immoral that some were abusing of prices.
The PN leader said he had written to the President of the European Popular Party calling for an urgent summit via video conferencing, on the position of the Hungarian Government, which he said is taking advantage of the Covid-19 situation by taking over control. Delia added it was unacceptable for democracy to be threatened.
Dr Delia also announced he would be changing the portfolios of Opposition spokespersons in order to deliver a message about the Party’s priorities. The PN leader added these will include adequate and sustainable pensions, youth and sport, the digital society, true equality, work and the environment and climate change.
