Confirmation of 11 new cases of Covid-19 in Malta, bringing up the total number of cases in Malta to 213.
Superintendent of Public Health Charmaine Gauci stated during a media conference that 659 swabs were carried out yesterday, from which these new cases – all local transmissions – resulted positive. To date, 9,702 tests have been carried out.
Today’s 11 confirmed cases include a 74-year-old Maltese woman who was admitted to hospital for an unrelated case. The woman was tested and resulted positive for the virus. Contact tracing in connection with this case is underway.
A 50-year-old Maltese man also started with coughing, and two members of his family have exhibited symptoms.
A 46-year-old man has tested positive for the virus, and contact tracing in in progress for his family.
And a two-year-old girl, who had not been abroad, is also among the infected persons. The girl started exhibiting symptoms on 3 April. Again, in this case, contact tracing among her family is in progress.
Today’s list includes a 26-year-old foreign male from the Ħal Far Open Centre. Professor Gauci stated the man had no direct link to the other man from the same Centre who was confirmed yesterday. The man has been isolated, and his fellow lodgers, five persons, have been placed under quarantine.
A 28-year-old foreign national, a female, who lives in Malta and who was not working has also tested positive for the virus. Again, contact tracing is ongoing.
These cases include a 24-year-old foreign national who lives in Malta, and contact tracing is also being carried out. Six persons with direct contact with this person have been quarantined. A risk assessment is also underway at this person’s workplace.
Also on the list is a 31-year-old male healthcare worker. Contact tracing is being carried out on those who live with him, as well as on the patients he might have been in contact with.
A man who lives with three foreign nationals has also tested positive for the virus. These three foreigners have been quarantined and a risk assessment is in progress at their workplace.
A 66-year-old Maltese man has been admitted to hospital for an unrelated condition in order to undergo an operation. The man resulted positive for the virus after being tested. Again, contact tracing is also in progress.
And a 40-year-old woman was not going to work, but the virus symptoms manifested themselves. Contact tracing of her family members is ongoing. Two members have already tested negative.
