The Bank MeDirect, regarded as the third largest bank in Malta, is to close down two of its branches in Mosta and Paola.

The decision was taken after last year HSBC announced it was decreasing its branches.

Bank MeDirect said it has invested in technology to provide a better banking service on an online platform that offers greater convenience to its clients without their having to be physically present at branches.

Therefore the two branches at Mosta and Paola will close at the end of the month but its branches at Sliema and Gozo will remain open.

Neville Gafà not being reconfirmed in public post

In his first full day as Prime Minister, besides choosing the members of the Cabinet, Dr Robert Abela also continued to select or confirm the officials who will be assisting him in the Office of the Prime Minister.

Sources have stated that Neville  Gafà is not going to be confirmed as an official in Castille or in other public posts. TVM is informed that this morning Neville Gafà sent in his resignation from the post he had occupied as a person of trust to Mr Clyde Caruana, who has started running the Prime Minister’s Secretariat.

Neville Gafà has been mentioned in recent days during the public inquiry into the murder of Daphne Caruana Galizia when it was alleged that on the eve of the journalist’s murder he had been seen taking photographs of the journalist in public. He was also allegedly involved in the alleged bribery regarding the issuing of medical visas to Libyan citizens who wanted to come to Malta for treatment. Some years ago Mr Gafà had also been removed from his post as an official within the Health Ministry.
