Rome mayor against 'propaganda, red zones'
Security must be raised across city says Gualtieri

Rome Mayor Roberto Gualtieri on Tuesday spoke out against the
creation of limited areas with boosted security in Rome saying
safety levels must be raised across the capital, at the end of a
Provincial committee for order and security at the prefecture in
Rome.
Gualtieri said it was not a matter of "carrying out promotional
interventions or 'red zones' that come and go and risk moving
illegal activities from one part to the other" of the city but
rather of "implementing measures to raise the structural level
of security" across Rome, including installing more surveillance
cameras in the city and upping security at all train stations.
"We believe all of Rome should be a large white area where
everyone can move safely", noted the mayor.
"While we are waiting to raise in a structural manner the level
of security, the Roman way is to implement these areas" with
boosted controls to "prepare the ground for a more permanent
organization with safe stations and video cameras".
The capital's prefect said after Tuesday's meeting that security
in Rome zones including the central Termini station and the
Esquilino district would be boosted as part of security and
crime-prevention measures in addition to those in place around
sensitive targets during the Jubilee Holy Year celebrations.
