Schlein urges govt to report on SpaceX, Italy not for sale
Meloni can't think she can get away with a few lines to press
Italy is not on sale for cheap,
centre-left opposition Democratic Party (PD) leader Elly Schlein
said Monday calling on the government to report to parliament on
a rumoured 1.5 billion euro deal to let Elon Musk's SpaceX
Starlink satellite system take over the management of Italy's
telecoms security.
"Don't think you can get away with a few lines entrusted to the
press agencies and friendly newspapers," Schelin said referring
to Premier Giorgia Meloni, who is a personal friend of world's
richest man and X and Tesla owner Musk, US President-elect
Donald Trump's new efficiency czar.
"Giorgia Meloni and her government should come immediately to
report to Parliament on the negotiations with Musk," Schelin
went on.
"If 1.5 billion of Italian money to bring the satellites of the
American billionaire to our country is the price we have to pay
for his friendship, we are not going to accept it, Italy is not
selling out".
