Security chief Belloni leaves DIS, early farewell confirmed
'Decision not linked to taking up position elsewhere'
Elisabetta Belloni has confirmed her
decision to leave the Department of Security Information (DIS),
Italy's top intelligence agency, before her term is due to
expire, well-informed sources told ANSA Monday.
Belloni, 66, was appointed DIS chief by Premier Mario Draghi in
May 2021.
The former ambassador and foreign ministry director general's
term would have expired in May.
Her decision was reportedly communicated by Belloni to the
Delegated Authority for the Security of the Republic, Cabinet
Secretary Alfredo Mantovano.
The ex ambassador denied that her choice to leave the body that
coordinates Italy's two intelligence agencies - domestic body
SISDI and foreign body SISDE - was linked to the assumption of
a new position in another institution.
