One million to travel for Epiphany holiday
Winter break worth 400 million euros says Federalberghi
An estimated one million Italian
holidaymakers are expected to travel for the upcoming Epiphany
weekend with 91% choosing a destination in Italy and only 9%
going abroad, according to a survey carried out by the Tecnè
institute for hoteliers' association Federalberghi.
Overall, the majority of those polled will be spending their
winter break in a region close to home (54.1%) or somewhere
within their region (30.9%), said the survey released ahead of
the Epiphany national holiday on Monday, January 6.
Holidaymakers will spend an average of 3.3 nights away for an
average cost of 362 euros per person for those who will remain
in Italy and 544 euros for those who will vacation abroad.
The majority of travellers will stay at a hotel (34.7%),
followed by a room in a Bed and Breakfast (30.4%).
Tourism during the Epiphany holiday this year is expected to
generate a turnover of 400 million euros, said Federalberghi.
