Ecommerce in tourism sector worth nearly 40 bn in 2024
According to study by Milan Polytechnic observatory
Italy's tourism sector in 2024
continued to grow but at a slower pace compared to the strong
recovery registered after the COVID-19 pandemic, according to a
study by the Observatory Travel Innovation of Milan's
Polytechnic university presented Thursday at the TTG Travel
experience fair in Rimini.
Overall, growth was driven by eCommerce, accounting for 56% of
the total value of the hospitality market (21 billion over a
total of 37.5 billion euros) and 70% of the transportation
sector (18.4 billion out of 26.3 billion) for a total of nearly
40 billion euros, the study found.
The travel market - including eCommerce and other channels - is
overall growing at a different pace with the hospitality sector
up 4%, transport +10%, tour operating (without cruises) and
travel agencies +8%, according to the research.
