Anti-Semitism growing, future uncertain say Italy's Jews
Jewish community commemorates October 7 massacres
Italy's Jews said Monday that they
face an uncertain future due to growing anti-Semitism as they
commemorated the first anniversary of Hamas's horrific October 7
attacks on Israel with a ceremony at the Great Synagogue of
Rome.
"Representatives of all the Jewish communities and bodies in
Italy have come here to express together the excruciating pain
of that day, which began at dawn and never ended, and express
condolences to the victims," said Noemi Di Segni, the president
of the Union of Italian Jewish Communities.
"(We are here) to share the fear and anxiety for the future that
come with these tough months.
"An uncertain future for an entire region whose developments we
follow hour by hour.
"An uncertain future for Europe and Italy in which we live
immersed in an arduous daily confrontation with growing,
multifaceted anti-Semitism, while carrying the anti-Semitism of
centuries and centuries on our shoulders".
