Don't boost Brusca book says dissolved in acid boy brother
Presentation only serves to reopen painful wounds
The brother of a 14-year-old boy
strangled and dissolved in acid by Mafia boss Giovanni Brusca in
January 1996 on Monday told ANSA the media should stop
publicising a new book on the former Cosa Nostra chieftain.
"We must not give more visibility to the men of Cosa Nostra who
have tormented the territory by blocking its development and
bringing pain and death", said Nicola Di Matteo, whose brother
Giuseppe was kidnapped in a bid to stop their father
collaborating with police.
Giuseppe Di Matteo was abducted aged 12 on November 23, 1993 on
the orders of Giovanni Brusca, and fellow bosses Matteo Messina
Denaro and Leoluca Bagarella, a kidnapping to make his father,
Santino Di Matteo, recant after he had begun to collaborate with
Italian justice.
"These demonstrations like the presentation of Giovanni Brusca's
book only serve to reopen painful wounds in those who have lost
their loved ones", said Nicola Di Matteo, whose brother was
killed on January 11, 1996, at the age of 14, after 779 days in
captivity.
