Some 75% of Italians are against nuclear power, a poll said Wednesday.
    Italy abandoned its nuclear power programme in 1987, a year after the Chernobyl disaster, but the government's plan for the Green transition feature a mixture of renewable sources including 10% nuclear, which officials have said will come through smaller latest generation reactors built by the private sector.
    The poll said that for 75 per cent of Italians, nuclear power is not a viable solution and is not a valid alternative to fossil fuels, because it is too dangerous and not cost-effective.
    Only 25% maintain that a return to nuclear power is better.
    The poll was conducted by the IPSOS research institute and scommissioned by Legambiente, Kyoto Club, Conou and Editoriale Nuova Ecologia.
