Mattarella says no restrictions in name of govt duty
Democracy of majority wd be irremediable contradiction
President Sergio Mattarella on
Wrdnesday warned of the danger of undue restrictions being
imposed in the name of government duty.
"We are helped by (philosopher Norberto) Bobbio when he warns
that one cannot resort to simplifications of the system or
restrictions of rights in the name of the duty to govern",
Mattarella said speaking at the Social Week of Catholics in
Italy in Trieste.
"A democracy of the majority would be, by definition, an
irremediable contradiction, due to the confusion between the
instruments of government and the protection of the effective
condition of rights and freedom".
