Valuable violin found in trash sings again
18th-C instrument played by Austrian virtuoso, 13, in Trieste
A valuable 18th century violin found
in a pile of rubbish in Trieste last year has sung again, played
by a 13-year-old Austrian girl virtuoso at a concert in the ex
Hapsburg Friuli port city Friday night.
The precious instrument was found in a state of disrepair,
missing some internal parts, and string-less on a waste dump and
has now been played to a standign ovation by Lorea Limura, the
winner of an international concert, in Trieste's iconic Piazza
Unità d'Italia.
"It has a stupendous sound, like that of an instrument worth 50
or 50 thousand euro," said master violin maker Matteo Fanni
Canelles, the craftsman who repaired it, speaking to Il Piccolo
di Trieste newspaper.
