VAR will be rolled out to Serie B from next season after clubs voted unanimously for its application.

VAR has already been used in the second tier, in last season’s promotion playoffs and relegation playouts.

Today, 19 of the 20 teams currently competing in Serie B voted in favour of it being utilised full time as of the 2020-21 campaign.

For now, it is expected to be used offline for 2-3 games this term before being installed properly for the playoffs and playouts.

The technology had a similar rollout in Serie A prior to its permanent implementation at the start of 17-18.

Official: Maradona quits Gimnasia

Argentine side Gimnasia LP have confirmed that Napoli icon Diego Maradona is “no longer” their coach.

It had been reported that Maradona would quit Gimnasia if President Gabriel Pellegrino did not stand for re-election, and that has now proven to be the case.

“Maradona is no longer Gimnasia’s coach,” the outgoing patron told Fox Sports Argentina.

“[Reserve-team coach Mariano] Messera will manage the team against Arsenal [Sarandi].”

The 59-year-old was only hired in September and had improved their fortunes, winning three of his last five games in charge.

Despite that, Gimnasia remain in the Superliga relegation zone, three points adrift of safety.
