Major award boost for Ireland striker Troy Parrott ahead of cup clash with Ajax Amsterdam
AZ Alkmaar Troy Parrott has netted his first big senior club award.
Ireland striker Troy Parrott has been named the Eredivisie Player of the Month for December, thanks to his stellar performances for AZ Alkmaar before the Christmas break.
The 22-year-old won the prize, which is determined by a combination of data and fan votes, and received his trophy ahead of next week’s return to action.
AZ’s first game back after the break will be in the KNVB Cup against Ajax Amsterdam next Tuesday.

It was a double celebration for Alkmaar, with Wouter Goes winning the Johan Cruijff Talent of the Month.
Former Tottenham striker Parrott and his teammates enjoyed a strong December, with wins over Heracles Almelo, Ajax, NAC Breda and FC Twente.
Parrott’s form saw him score in three of those four games, including the winner against FC Twente.
It was his first time to score in three consecutive Eredivisie games.
The Dubliner is the first AZ player to win the Player of the Month award since October 2023, when Vangelis Pavlidis - now at Benfica - was honoured.
This is Parrott’s first senior individual club award. He has previously won the FAI Goal of the Year prize - 2019 and 2021 - as well as the Under-15 (2017) and Under-16 (2018) International Player of the Year gongs.
