Met Eireann's Joanna Donnelly hits back after Rory Cowan questions snow warnings: 'What serious weather event?'
In a now deleted comment, Joanna Donnelly hit back at Mrs Brown’s Boys actor Rory Cowan after he questioned the snow warnings put in place by Met Éireann
A Met Éireann forecaster has hit back at Mrs Brown’s Boys actor Rory Cowan after he claimed there was no “serious weather event” ahead of a wave of snow blasting Ireland.
The national forecaster issued a series of weather alerts last Friday, warning that severe snowfall would hit some areas of the country on Saturday evening. Temperatures plummeted over the weekend as snowfall blasted a number of counties, impacting transport, leaving homes without electricity and freezing pipes.
The ensuing snow left a family-owned pub on Main Street in Charleville with an estimated €100,000 in damages after its outdoor area roof collapsed under the weight of heavy snow, while the roof of a regional sports centre in Kerry also collapsed on Monday morning following heavy snowfall in the area.

Mrs Brown’s Boys actor Rory Cowan took to social media on Saturday just as the warnings came into effect, questioning whether there was a “serious weather event” in play.
“The national broadcaster and those in the know say there's a serious weather event in Ireland,” the former Mrs Brown’s Boys cast member wrote in a post on X on Saturday, prior to warnings coming into effect.
“They issued warnings about it over the last few days. What serious weather event? I haven't seen much evidence of it so far.”
The actor’s words garnered a strong response across the platform, receiving hundreds of replies from outraged social media users who blasted Rory, saying that the weather warnings helped them prepare for the snow.
One of the commenters who chimed in on Rory’s post was Met Éireann forecaster and former Dancing With The Stars contestant Joanna Donnelly, who slammed the soap actor for his comments.
The forecaster replied to the post in a now deleted comment: “Rory you should take a drive to Limerick, bring a care package to the vulnerable there trying to cope.
“Oh and DON'T check your thread depth or tyre pressure before you set off. DON'T steer in to a skid, just slam on your brakes really hard if you start to slide be grand.”
Prior to the comment being removed, Rory replied: “Or I could just use my common sense and not buy into the alarmist scaremongering.”
