Aubrey Plaza has spoken out about the devastating loss of her husband, Jeff Baena, who was found dead at his Los Angeles home on Friday. He was 47.

Following the tragic incident, the actress released a brief but heartfelt statement though her publicist which read: "This is an unimaginable tragedy. We are deeply grateful to everyone who has offered support. Please respect our privacy during this time," the Daily Mail reports.

The statement was issued as Aubrey stepped back from a high-profile engagement shortly after the tragic news emerged. She was scheduled to present an award at the 82nd Golden Globe Awards on Sunday, with fellow stars such as Salma Hayek, Anya Taylor-Joy, and Anthony Ramos also set to appear at the awards show.

However, PEOPLE confirmed she pulled out of the event following Baena's death.

47-year-old Indie filmmaker Baena was found unresponsive by an assistant in his Los Angeles home on Friday morning.

Emergency service crew, including police officers and fire department personnel, arrived at his residence at exactly 10.25 am on January 3, where he was pronounced dead at the scene.

It was later determined by the LA County Medical Examiner's Office that Jeff had died by suicide, reports the Mirror.

Aubrey and Jeff's romance goes back to 2011 when they first met on the set of the film Life After Beth.

Their professional relationship soon turned into a personal one, and they started dating. Over the years, they worked together on several projects, including Joshy (2016), Horse Girl (2020) and The Little Hours (2017).

In 2021, after being together for a decade, Baena popped the question to Plaza. They decided to keep their engagement and subsequent wedding private, choosing a low-key celebration.

It was only through a subtle Instagram post in May 2021, where Aubrey referred to Jeff as her "husband" while celebrating their work on Spin Me Round, that the couple's marriage was revealed.

During a heart-to-heart chat on The Drew Barrymore Show, Aubrey opened about the couple's journey: "It's so great, it's so complicated. It's, like, extreme highs and extreme, you know, complications. It's a really hard thing to navigate, but we've been together for 11 years. We just muscle our way through it."
