'I picked classic name for my daughter - but people say there's glaring problem'
A mum-to-be has been told there's a glaring problem with the traditional name she wants to give to her daughter, as people have said she'll be giving her child 'extra work'
Choosing a baby name is more than just picking out a moniker you like.
There are countless names out there that you can pick for your baby. Whether you like classic names or want to go for something a little more unique, there's one to suit everyone's tastes. But it's not always as easy as simply picking out a name you like the sound of, as you also have to consider things like how it sounds with your surname, what your child's initials will look like, and sometimes even which spelling you want to go with.
One mum-to-be has said she's opting for a traditional name for her daughter, but she wants to make the name unique by spelling it unconventionally. However, people have urged her to reconsider, claiming she'll be "condemning" her child to a life of "extra work" telling people how to spell her name.

The mum posted on Reddit to say she and her husband love "funky" spellings of otherwise normal names and gave examples of calling a child "Saylor" instead of Sailor and changing the common name Kylie to "Kiely".
She said: "How do we feel about funky spellings of names? As mentioned previously, my baby girl is due in six months and my husband loves Kiely as an alternate spelling of Kylie. I love Saylor as an alternate spelling of Sailor.
"Am I damning my child to mispronunciation and misspelling of her name forever? Is it in bad taste to name my kid a name with a goofy spelling? Any and all opinions are welcome!"
Commenters on the post were split over the mum's take, with some accusing her of "condemning" her child to a life of having to spell their name out for people. Some, however, believed the mum was well within her rights to spell her daughter's name however she chooses - as long as it makes sense.
One person said: "Yes, you are damning her to 80+ years of having to correct people or suck up having her name be mispronounced or spelt. It just seems unfair to saddle a person with this extra work."
Another agreed, writing: "I think weird spellings is a bad trend. Pick a name that you like but also your child won't be laughed at for. I personally would not recommend either of those names."
But someone else disagreed, posting: "I personally think Saylor is ok, but Kiely does not yield Kylie pronunciation. I said Kai-ellie even after reading that it was supposed to be Kylie." While a fourth wrote: "I think Saylor works better as a name than Sailor personally, but I can only read Kiely as 'Keely' so I would consider another spelling if you don't like Kylie."
