Aer Lingus flight makes unexpected 350km diversion amid fog chaos
An Aer Lingus flight from Dublin to Leeds was diverted 350 kilometres to Edinburgh on Friday morning due to dense fog. The severe weather also caused widespread flight cancellations across major UK airports.
An Aer Lingus flight was forced to make an unexpected 350-kilometre diversion on Friday morning, throwing travel plans into disarray for many passengers.
Flight EI3390 departed Dublin at approximately 7am on December 27 and was scheduled to land in Leeds around 8.44am. However, due to adverse weather conditions, the flight was rerouted to Edinburgh, where it touched down earlier than expected at 8.15am - hundreds of kilometres away from its intended destination.
The diversion was reportedly caused by dense fog that severely impacted visibility in the region. Aer Lingus has been approached by Edinburgh Live for comment on the incident, but no statement has been issued at this time.
The challenging weather conditions extended beyond this flight, with numerous cancellations reported across major UK airports, including Heathrow, Gatwick and Manchester, as heavy fog continued on Friday.

UK Met Office meteorologist Liam Eslick described the conditions as widespread and persistent, noting their impact on Christmas travel. He said: "It’s that time of year when people are traveling around the country a lot, and there are a lot of people on the roads. Much of England, particularly the South East and central regions, is seeing dense fog, but the rest of the country is experiencing significant patches of it as well. It will be pretty murky on Saturday morning, and there will still be fog patches that will take a little longer to clear."
Meanwhile, Ireland is braced for a potential snow storm over the coming days.
