Mrs Brown's Boys misses BBC's Top 10 most watched as Christmas Day viewing figures revealed

Mrs Brown’s Boys failed to reach the top 10 most watched TV shows on the BBC as Gavin and Stacey dominated festive viewing.
Brendan O’Carroll and the cast aired their first Christmas special – Ding Dong Mammy – on Christmas Day at 11:05pm.
On St Stephen’s Day, the BBC released its top 10 most watched shows on Christmas Day – and Mrs Brown’s Boys didn’t appear on the list.

However, it is likely to have topped RTE’s Christmas Day viewing figures – but the national broadcaster won’t be revealing their ratings until some time in the New Year.
Mrs Brown’s Boys returns again for their New Year’s Special - B&B Mammy – which airs at 10.30pm.
After her Christmas Day shenanigans, Mrs Brown is ready to kickstart a new enterprise when she turns her spare room into a B&B. And a dangerous, escaped criminal turns up and takes over the gaff!
"Mrs Brown as a landlady doesn’t work out," teased Brendan.
"Agnes is held hostage, and so is everyone who calls at the house - including her family, the neighbours and a brass band!"
Now, there’s a scenario you won’t see on Four in a Bed. Steve Speirs (The Tuckers) guest stars.
"The New Year's Eve storyline is probably the funniest I’ve written in a long, long time,” said Brendan.
Meanwhile, the finale of Gavin and Stacey secured the highest Christmas Day ratings since 2008, the BBC has said.
The emotional farewell to the popular sitcom, which saw characters Smithy and Nessa finally get their happy ending, drew an average audience of 12.3 million, according to overnight figures.
It surpassed the show’s 2019 Christmas special – which had an overnight audience of 11.6 million – by more than half a million viewers.
It was also the top viewed programme in the BBC’s schedule, with the new Wallace and Gromit film, Vengeance Most Fowl, in second place with an average overnight audience of 9.4 million, while the King’s speech attracted an average of 5 million viewers.
The BBC took control of the TV set on the day - it was BBC One’s biggest share on Christmas Day since 2007. BBC One was bigger than all of SVOD combined on the TV screen, nearly double the size overall and also bigger for 16 34s.
BBC One was three times the size of both Netflix & YouTube (individually), and over double the size of each for 16 34.
The BBC as a whole made up over half of the viewing to the broadcaster market for 16-34s. BBC iPlayer on its own was bigger than Netflix, both overall and for 16 to 34s.
Charlotte Moore, BBC’s Chief Content Officer says: "Christmas Day on the BBC brought people together in their millions and saw Gavin and Stacey triumph.
"Ruth Jones and James Corden created a magical finale that fans will treasure forever. Their exquisitely written comedy creation is a show all about family, love and joy and it proved to be the unmissable TV event of the year. I’m very proud that the line-up across the day was a showcase for the very best in British storytelling, and caps off an exceptional 2024 for the BBC with increased market share against the competition both local and global."
