Singer Lyra ditches writing songs about ex on new album - as she tells of exciting 2025 plans
The star wrapped her tour on December 15 and is looking forward to kicking back with her family over the festive season
Singer Lyra has said she will no longer write songs about her ex-boyfriend as she opens up about her Christmas plans in Cork.
The star wrapped her tour on December 15 and is looking forward to kicking back with her family over the festive season.
She told The Irish Mirror: "I’m in Cork for Christmas. It’s family time. I finished the tour on December 15. I just want to spend time with them.

"For the past couple of years, we’ve stopped doing presents for the adults, we just do presents for the kids. We make the effort to be home and be home for a good chunk of time and really to be present."
She said Christmas is her time to pay back her family for being supportive all year to her as an artist.
"I’m paying back. My sister comes on the road with me as much as she can so she’s constantly getting my outfit out, she is unbelievable. Then my dad drives me around, my mum is packing my bags for me, making me packed lunches.
"When I get off tour, I’m giving back so I don’t get any respite," she said laughing.
The 31-year-old revealed her family come on tour with her as much as they can.
"I bring them as much as I can. It’s a great experience. They’ve seen me since I was young singing so now getting up on stage and selling out venues is a very special moment as well so I try to bring them as much as I can.
"And me and my sister are like best friends. They’re just a wonderful family. We get on so well."
But she does get awkward when some of her performances are a bit too raunchy for her dad.
"There are sometimes where I’m like ‘can you not watch that or come to this show?' When I know it's not raunchy or on songs four and 10, 'can you leave the room?'
"I’m always going to be his little girl and I’m there singing a song called Drink Me Up whereas my mum is a bit on the wild side so everyone is like 'Sauvignon Blanc on the rider' for her," she said laughing.
Lyra is currently working on her second album for next year’s release and said she will not be including any songs about her ex-boyfriend on it.
But she revealed she did get a text from his mam wishing her a successful career.
"One thing that will be different is – I’m not going to be writing about my ex boyfriend. I did that on album one and he’s not getting a second album.
"It’s over and done with.
"He hasn’t messaged me. His ego wouldn’t allow him to do that, but his mum has.
"She’s like 'congratulations on all your success'. I did message her back, saying I was sorry for some of the songs she’s heard.
"But she just said 'you do you' kind of thing. It is what it is. It happened and it is out there.
"Album number two is going to be about me, the fun me, the weirdo that I really am. I’m going to really embrace it and have fun with it.
"Album one is always the scary album whereas now I feel like I can test the waters even more.
"I’ve already written two songs which I love.
"I feel like Queen and Drink Me Up on album one are like the baby sisters of what’s to come."
But she admitted that she’s always nervous financially about where money will come from.
"I feel like when you’re in this type of industry, you’re always nervous financially because you’re hot one minute, you’re not the next.
"I’d say the music industry is like – Adele said it – entertain me in 30 seconds or you’re gone so you’re always going to have financial worries.
"That’s the name of the game and I just have to keep going and if it comes to a point where if I can’t do it anymore, then I’ve had a good run.
"But I’m definitely not hanging up those thigh high boots yet.
"Even if some shows will cost me money – I’d prefer to put on a good show than cut back to make a few bob. I’m not going to be that type of artist. I always want to give back to the people who have paid to come to my show.
"I’m going to give them a good show, even if the bank balance is low," she added.
