A Thai escort was found dead in the hotel room of an Irish tourist, who claims he did not know she was dead despite her being in the room with him for at least three days, police say
An Irish tourist has been arrested after a Thai escort was found dead in his hotel room, with police saying she had been deceased for at least three days.
Bearach Beataidh, 71, from County Down, was last seen on camera giving Duangta Khampongsom, 45, a kiss and holding her hand as they walked to his bedroom in a guest house located in Pattaya, on December 18.
Ms. Khampongsom did not emerge alive, but the pensioner was captured by CCTV leaving the room on December 22, according to law enforcement.

Building manager Prayoon Chinsai, 57, reported a bad smell coming from the room that morning. Nobody responded to him rapping on the door so he entered using a master key only to be confronted by the grim sight of the woman's semi-naked, rotting remains on the bed, according to reports.
Cops appeared swiftly at the scene before finding the County Down man, who possesses an Irish passport, nursing a drink in a nearby bar.
The Daily Star reports that Police Captain Puttharak Sonkhamhan from Pattaya City Police station confirmed: "The woman had been dead for at least three days. Her body had started to decay and bloat, emitting a foul odour throughout the room. She was clad only in denim shorts and nothing on her upper body. A search of the room found no evidence of a struggle or ransacking.
"It would be difficult not to notice she was dead as her body was already decomposing. There was also fluid and blood on the bed."
CCTV footage secured by authorities depicts Duangta, donned in a black shirt and white cap, accompanying the tourist through the hotel corridor on the night of December 18.
On December 22, Bearach was spotted departing the room alone. He purportedly informed police: "She kept vomiting and sleeping the whole time, but I did not think it was anything abnormal. I understood that she felt weak and exhausted. We last spoke on December 19."
Bearach maintained he was unaware of her passing "because there was no unusual smell" in their room, refuting any allegations of inflicting injury or death upon the woman.
A spokesperson for the Department of Foreign Affairs told the Irish Mirror: "The Department of Foreign Affairs is aware of reports and stands ready to provide consular assistance. As with all consular cases, the Department does not comment on the details of individual cases."
