Two men in court charged with possession of a semi automatic rifle and ammunition
The presiding judge reserved a decision on granting the accused legal aid on the basis of seeing a statement of means first
Two men have appeared in court charged with possession of a semi automatic rifle and ammunition in a car.
Declan Coulahan (45) of Drumcairn Parade, Tallaght, South Co Dublin, and Michael Simpson (35) of Rowlagh Avenue in Clondalkin, West Dublin, appeared before a sitting of Blanchardstown District Court this morning.
Both men are charged with possession of a firearm - namely a 9mm Luger calibre Glock model 17 semi-automatic pistol - and possession of 10 rounds of 9mm Luger calibre ammunition in the Dublin area on December 17.

Giving evidence of arrest, charge and caution of Mr Coulahan, Detective Garda James Morris of the National Drugs and Organised Crime Bureau said the accused made “no reply” after caution.
The Detective Garda told the court that this is a “possession of firearms and ammunition” case and that the items were “in a vehicle.”
Gardai asked the court that a statement of means be provided at the next court hearing.
The presiding judge reserved a decision on granting the accused legal aid on the basis of seeing a statement of means first.
Gardai objected to bail and in response to a question from the judge stated that Mr Coulahan is currently employed and earns €650 a week.
His solicitor told the court that this was a matter that will “almost certainly” be brought forward to the Circuit Court and said that this was a “complicated case” and “at the high end of these kind of situations.”
The accused was remanded into custody and is due to appear before the Central Criminal Court on December 23.
