Munster could be among the interested parties seeking to talk to former Reds star Felix Jones after he was formally released from his England role by the RFU today.

Jones, 37, joined Steve Borthwick's coaching team 11 months ago after winning a second World Cup with South Africa.

However the Dubliner told the RFU he wanted out of Borthwick's set-up in August and since then he has worked remotely for the English union as his departure was worked out.

If Jones is to remain on the international scene, he won't be involved in this year's Six Nations Championship under the terms of the exit deal. He has been tipped for a role under Andy Farrell with the British and Irish Lions next summer, but he could start work with a club side immediately.

Munster are still without a head coach following the departure of Graham Rowntree before the Autumn Series and Ian Costello is in the role on an interim basis, while attack coach Mike Prendergast confirmed this week that he has put his hat in the ring for the Reds' hot-seat.

"The RFU can confirm that England Rugby men's assistant coach Felix Jones will step down from his role on Friday 13 December," a RFU statement said. "The terms of his departure prevent Jones from working with any Tier One team until Tuesday 1 April 2025.

"During this period, he is permitted to work with any club or any Tier Two international team and below, should he choose to do so."
