Weather maps put 100kph gusts on course with Ireland as country braces for menacing system
Wind speeds exceeding 100kph could hit particular parts of the country according to new weather maps
Ireland is gearing up for high winds and heavy rain next week, as ominous low pressure sets its sights on the country. Over the course of the coming days, we're expecting mild weather sprinkled with bright intervals and occasional drizzle.
But forecasts suggest a shift towards more tempestuous weather by late next week. Next Thursday could see fierce gusts exceeding 100kph in particular areas, along with widespread downpours.
Alan O’Reilly, the expert behind the popular Carlow Weather account on social media, said there was a risk of “some bad weather” next week that could put an end to the current mild conditions.

He sounded the alarm about the incoming storm: "The first real sign of a risk of some bad weather is a week away, with a risk of a low system this day next week but very uncertain yet."
Taking to social media, Alan showcased forecast charts predicting peak gusts whipping over 100kph across the east and southeast coasts around midday next Thursday. He also highlighted data anticipating intense rainfall, with rates that could hit 10mm per hour in certain regions as early as 6am on the same day.
Meanwhile, in a nod to festive dreamers, Met Éireann teased the prospect of a snowy Christmas for some, saying winter showers are "cannot be ruled out" during the holiday stretch in their latest projections.
