Maura Higgins has admitted that acting is “nerve-racking” as the first film she ever featured in has won a coveted award.
While the Love Island star, 34, is more than comfortable participating in reality shows and presenting on television, she said that acting is a different ball game. The Longford native featured in a music-themed comedy called The Spin, which won the Best Irish Feature Film award at the Dublin International Comedy Film Festival.
Maura plays Rose in the movie, the girlfriend of Game of Thrones actor Brenock O’Connor’s character. The film has some big names, including Derry Girls’ Tara Lynne O’Neill and Leah O’Rourke, Hardy Bucks’ Owen Colgan and Kimberly Wyatt from The Pussy Cat Dolls.

Before entering the I'm A Celebrity... Get Me Out of Here jungle, Maura spoke about her acting debut. She said: “The Irish are known for our storytelling, so it felt fitting that my acting debut would be in an Irish film.
"Although I am comfortable in front of the camera, it did still feel nerve-wracking at first, but chatting with the brilliant cast and crew helped me relax. Being on set was an incredible experience, and I enjoyed every moment! I play the character of Rose, the girlfriend of Dermot, a down-on-his-luck record store owner.”
The film is based on a semi-autobiographical original story by Omagh songwriter & musician Mark McCausland, who has also composed the original score. The Spin was filmed on location in Omagh, Gortin, Greencastle, Pigeon Top in Co Tyrone and Bundoran, Co Donegal.
Mo O’Connell, Festival Director of the Dublin International Comedy Film Festival, said it’s a "funny and heartwarming story about friendship” set against the beautiful backdrop of Northern and Western Ireland. He added: “The film features fantastic performances from the incredibly charismatic Owen Colgan, Brennock O'Connor, and Tara Lynne O'Neill.
“The producers have done an inspiring job creating this gorgeous film and making it a joy to behold. The Dublin International Comedy Film Festival is pleased to award The Spin the title of Best Irish Feature Film. We wish them all the best for the future."
