Manchester City player slammed for controversial Liverpool comment
Manchester City keeper Stefan Ortega gave away a penalty in his side's defeat to Liverpool and then found himself in hott water with Reds fans over his post-match interview
Manchester City keeper Stefan Ortega has been branded 'classless' after appearing to take aim at the city of Liverpool.
Ortega conceded two goals as his side fell to a defeat at Anfield on Sunday evening. That has left them 11 points adrift of the Premier League leading Reds and without a win in any of their last seven games.
While English is not German international Ortega's first language, he has come under fire for comments about the city his side lost in on Sunday. He revealed that ahead of the game, he had been told Liverpool is not a 'good' area.
Ortega told BBC Radio Manchester: "Someone told me before that this area [Liverpool] is probably not the best part in the UK. I think the manager reacted really well [to chants of 'You're getting sacked in the morning'], yeah."
Those comment understandly sparked a storm among Liverpool fans. One fumed: "No class from that club from top to bottom." Another branded Ortega: "Just classless man".
A third fan added: "Who are you? You play 2 games a season and you wouldn’t even make Liverpool reserves." A fourth said: "That’s a serious headloss." While a fifth added: "bro is so rattled lol."
Others took aim at Manchester, with one saying: "Someone needs to drive Stefan Ortega round Cheetham Hill, Longsight or actually anywhere near his fucking home ground. Put to the sword and that’s the best he has got."

Another added: "Obviously hasn’t seen much of Manchester then." Another fan said: "Oh bless , the poor lad can't take it." While a final supporter concluded: "Someone’s rattled."
Liverpool were dominant on Sunday, with Cody Gakpo handing them the lead 12 minutes in when he tapped in a brilliant pass from Mo Salah. The Eyptian got on the scoresheet himself after 78 minutes from the penalty spot after Ortega brought down Luis Diaz.
Ortega admitted his side were stuck in a rut but insisted they had played well at Anfield. The German defended his team-mates for their performances despite their dreadful run of form.
"When you come to Anfield, you know it will be tough, especially with the situation we're in right now. But I thought we did well. I'm disappointed with the loss, but not in the way we played," he added.
"Everyone is disappointed, and everyone is trying to find a solution. I'm pretty sure he [Guardiola] will find a solution, and everybody will follow him. You can't tell me we are playing bad football, or that we're not trying our best."
