Ruben Amorim drops Everton line-up hint and singles out Man Utd's 'great player'
New Manchester United manager singles out Diogo Dalot for praise as he gets his squad ready for a tough physical challenge against Sean Dyche's strugglers at Old Trafford
Ruben Amorim is expecting “a lot of fighting” when he comes up against one of England’s old-school bosses at Old Trafford.
In his first Premier League home match, the Manchester United manager faces Sean Dyche and is expecting Everton to provide a fierce physical challenge.
Amorim said: “It’s going to be a different match with a lot of fighting, long balls, second balls. They have a quality coach that understands the league, that understands the moment of the opponent. We need to have the ball.”
Since Everton played out a goalless draw against Brentford at Goodison Park last Saturday, Amorim’s United have made a trip to Ipswich and had a five-goal thriller against Bodo/Glimt in the Europa League on Thursday night. But the Portuguese coach is refusing to complain about the schedule.
He said: “It is what it is. And we will rotate players and we will be ready. Against Bodo, we had to use four subs to manage the fitness, not manage the game.
"We manage the fitness. We have to do it. We already know that it will be like that so no excuse. We should be ready for Sunday and we have to win.
“We have a short time to recover. We need to rotate the team. I hope for a win and I hope to see different things and to see my team improve like we did from Ipswich to Bodo, with Everton. I expect to see different things and better things.”
Although Harry Maguire and Victor Lindelof are sidelined - and Leny Yoro has not yet to make a squad under the new boss - United’s injury issues are easing, which means Amorim has plenty of options. But one player almost guaranteed a starting place is Diogo Dalot.
“He is a great player,” declared Amorim. “He can play both sides, which is perfect. He lives the game.
"He’s very powerful. We have to rotate him sometimes because he looks like he is always fresh but he’s not like that. He’s not a machine.
“I think he plays better on the right and we will manage to put him also on the right. I expect the same from as you saw in the past year (Dalot was United’s Player of the Year) - a great player that can help the team and is really a team player.”
