Ireland weather: Only one European country warmer than Ireland as temperatures soar ahead of weekend washout
Ireland is currently as warm as nearly everywhere in Europe, but there's a big change coming soon
Ireland experienced what could be best described as a “fierce mild” start to Friday as temperatures rose to the mid-teens ahead of a weekend likely to be dominated by the General Election.
In fact, according to weather expert Alan O’Reilly of Carlow Weather, only Portugal could lay claim to having warmer temperatures than Ireland in the entire continent of Europe, as the mercury reached 13 degrees by 6.30am.
It’s a pattern that looks set to continue until at least Sunday night, although those mild temperatures will be accompanied by rain pretty much the whole way through, with some heavy downpours to be expected at times.

Breezy and wet weather will be the order of the day as the country goes to the polls on Friday, although the rain is expected to clear into the Irish Sea later on Friday evening. Temperatures will peak at 14 degrees and drop no lower than 10 degrees on Friday night as the mild weather continues into Saturday.
Saturday, according to the Met Éireann forecast, will be even milder again, with temperatures reaching highs of 15 degrees. After patchy rain early doors, however, it will become more persistent throughout the day, particularly in Connacht and Munster later in the evening.
Parts of the country will see a more settled start to Sunday as sunny spells mix with scattered showers, but those showers will spread from the west and turn heavier on another mild day overall, turning cooler on Sunday night with lows of 4 degrees.
Met Éireann is predicting the return of cooler conditions from Monday onwards, with temperatures dropping to freezing or below on Monday night after what should be a far drier day than what is currently forecast for the weekend.
