TV show with perfect Rotten Tomatoes rating dubbed 'Aussie White Lotus' by fans
Netflix star Thomasin McKenzie is best known for her roles in Last Night in Soho and the acclaimed series Joy - but she's also the leading lady in a show that's been compared to the White Lotus.
Netflix's Joy is capturing hearts with the inspiring tale of the world's inaugural IVF baby, as seen through the eyes of nurse Jean Purdy, portrayed by Thomasin McKenzie.
While many TV fans will recognise McKenzie from Edgar Wright's cinematic piece Last Night in Soho, much of the 24 year old starlet's portfolio has yet to hit the mainstream. This includes her 2023 dramedy that enthusiasts are calling the 'Aussie White Lotus.'.
With a pristine 100% score on Rotten Tomatoes, Totally Completely Fine tells the story of Vivian Cunningham, a rebellious teen who inherits her grandad's coastal abode.
Initially ecstatic about acquiring the cliffside residence, she soon discovers its dark reputation as a magnet for those contemplating suicide, reports the Manchester Evening News.
The six-episode series, streaming at no cost on ITVX, follows Vivian as she confronts the challenge of dissuading visitors from taking their lives at the cliff.
The show features an impressive cast, including Rowan Witt (known from The Book of Mormon), Devon Terrell (famed for It's What's Inside) and Contessa Treffone (seen in Doctor Doctor).
Post-launch, viewers have lauded the series for its raw portrayal of mental health issues.
One fan, giving it full marks on IMDB, commented: "This is a perfect portrayal of a young person in today's Australia trying to get through life."
They added: "It's a really fresh take on the struggles of mental health that enables the viewer to feel empathy for the subject matter but not be dragged down into a depression spiral unlike some other shows covering the same deep topics."
One viewer was captivated by the series, penning a review with the headline 'An Aussie White Lotus that really pays off. ' They shared: "This is such an interesting show. I binged it with my parents but I think calling it a comedy is a bit of a misnomer. It is more of a drama with wild comedic elements because it actually gets really dark. So be warned because I was not ready."
Another fan hailed the show's brilliance, commenting: "This show is Fleabag levels of iconic, relatable, and unhinged. It's such a great representation of dysfunctional family dynamics, suicidal ideation, maturing, queer relationships, as well as a million other things."
