Eve Hewson stars in Bad Sisters on Apple TV, reuniting with four other lead actresses in the murder mystery drama series. Away from the screen, her life is just as intriguing...
The much-anticipated Bad Sisters Season Two is now streaming on Apple TV, featuring the five original leading ladies reprising their standout roles.
This gripping series centres around siblings Eva, Grace, Ursula, Bibi, and Becka (played by Eve Hewson), who grapple with the shocking demise of Grace's abusive husband. As each episode unfolds, viewers discover that every sister had a motive to wish their brother-in-law dead, making it a tantalising whodunit.
After unveiling who was behind the murder in the first series, the newest episodes resume at the point where fans were last left hanging. Cast members include the talented Sharon Horgan as Eva, Anne-Marie Duff playing Grace, Eva Birthistle as Ursula and Sarah Greene's portraying Bibi.
Eve Hewson, the 33-year-old Irish starlet known for her part in This Must Be the Place, has carved a successful career for herself with recent stints in Netflix's The Perfect Couple and John Carney's Flora and Son. Fans may also recognise her from her memorable appearance in The Script's music video For the First Time, reports the Daily Record, but what else is there to know about the star?
Her famous lineage
Hailing from Dublin, she was christened Memphis Eve Sunny Day Iris Hewson. Her unique moniker is a nod to the time and day of her arrival 7am on the 7th of July, with "Eve" a reference to the number "seven".
Daughter to none other than Bono, U2's iconic frontman, Eve has openly discussed her dynamic with her renowned dad. Speaking to the Irish Independent, she expressed how she and her siblings don't shy away from laying out their genuine thoughts to their father.
She explained: "We like to tell him what to wear and what to listen to and things like 'that shot's not good' and 'this verse isn't good'. We are very involved."
"He used to drive us to school and we would play whatever songs they were working on at the time. Like I say, we would be very involved and then upset if the version we liked didn't make it on the album."
"There would be a fight and we'd be like: 'Why, Dad, why? You have to listen to us!'".
Reflecting on her roots, she mentioned that in the Hewson household they "didn't grow up caring about the flashy things".
The star grew up in the swanky Killiney area of Dublin before making the move to Brooklyn. After finishing her education at New York University in 2013, her dad famously snubbed an honorary Doctorate of Humane Letters from the institution on her graduation day, opting instead to celebrate "being a proud father."
Controversial film
Eve's privileged background caused a stir when she took on the role of a working-class single mum in John Carney's Flora and Son. Despite the part being among the actress's most lauded performances, some viewers weren't happy with her casting.
Irish actor Joseph McGucken vented on X: "There's something very uncomfortable about watching Bono's daughter playing a working-class, single mother, from the flats, in her new film Flora and Son. I know it's made to tailor to an American audience, but my god. It's a shocking, outdated, out-of-touch performance!".
McGucken went on to describe the performance as "Borderline offensive. A [caricature] of the working class without the humour."
Another user echoed this sentiment, stating: "I think she's a good actor but I am sad to see that there are less and less working-class actors getting roles these days - especially in the UK. It's the same small pocket of posh boarding school-educated people with industry connections getting roles. It makes for boring viewing."
However, other users were quick to defend the Dublin-born actress, including fellow Irish actor Laurence Kinlan, known for his role in the crime drama Love/Hate. He retorted: "She's absolutely brilliant! Are people from the flats only allowed to play people from the flats? 'A shocking outdated, out-of-touch performance', it's called ACTING. Do you know how many people 'from the flats'' were in Love Hate?".
Is Eve dating anyone?
In terms of her personal life, Eve was romantically linked with One Tree Hill star James Lafferty from 2010 until 2015.
Rumours circulated in 2020 that Eve was dating actor Max Minghella, having allegedly met during the filming of The One and Only Ivan.
Currently, it is believed that she is in a relationship with someone outside of the public eye, choosing to keep her love life private.
