A veteran five-time All-Ireland senior football title winner helped his club to an unlikely Junior 6 football success on Sunday in Dublin. Denis Bastick, 43, won All-Ireland medals with Dublin between 2011 and 2017 and four Allianz National Football League Division one titles.

He operates at Junior 6 level for his club these days and gave an inspired display on Sunday to help his club Templeogue Synge Street beat St Brendan’s 1-12 to 0-12 in the Go Ahead Dublin Junior 6 South Football Championship Final at Dolphin Park.

Bastick was known as a midfielder during his time with the Dubs but he contributed an impressive 1-6 - half of Templeogue’s tally - in a man-of-the-match display.

Bastick is also well known for his appearances on reality tv.

In 2012 he appeared on RTÉ reality show Franc's DIY Brides where he married his fiancé Jody Hannon at Carton House and in 2019 he appeared on the Dancing with the Stars, reaching the ninth week before elimination.

He began his career with Dublin when captaining the Junior team to win the All-Ireland in 2008 and made his debut in 2009 against Meath.

He went on enjoy a glittering career that saw him also lift eight Leinster Championship titles to go with his five All-Ireland wins and four National League successes.

He announced his retirement from inter-county football in 2017 at the age of 36.

His club Templeogue Synge Street congratulated him on their Facebook page and also commented that he scored the same 1-6 tally in their semi-final win.

“Ah great man, a Dublin legend, well done Denis,” commented Damien Carroll while Dean Fitzgerald said “Wow…Class is permanent!!”.

The club have produced some notable Dublin players in the past including the late Anton O’Toole and current squad members Niall Scully and Lordan O’Dell.
