A woman has been arrested in connection with a fatal crash that claimed the life of a father-of-two over the summer.

The fatal road traffic collision took place on the R166 at Annagassan, Dunleer in Co Louth, shortly before 9am on Sunday, July 14, 2024.

The driver of one of the cars, who was later named as 64-year-old Arthur Daly, was pronounced dead at the scene and removed to the mortuary in Our Lady of Lourdes Hospital, Drogheda.

The female driver of the second vehicle involved in the crash, aged in her 50s, received urgent medical attention and was airlifted to the Mater Misericordiae University Hospital for treatment. There were no more injuries reported at the time of the incident.

On Monday (November 11), Gardaí announced that a woman in her 50s had been arrested as part of their investigations into this incident. She is currently detained under Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act, 1984, at a Garda station in Co Louth.

Gardai say that investigations into the incident are ongoing as they continue to appeal for any witnesses to the collision to come forward. Any road users who may have camera footage (including dash-cam) and were travelling in the area at the time of the collision are asked to make this footage available to Gardaí. Anyone with any information is asked to contact Ardee Garda Station on 041 685 3222, the Garda Confidential Line on 1800 666 111, or any Garda Station.

At the time of the incident, a number of Arthur Daly's friends and family paid tribute to the popular father of two, who was originally from Swords in Dublin. A former colleague of Mr Daly's at Belvedere College described him as a 'gentleman', while he was also remembered as 'a lovely man and a fantastic neighbour'.

Mr Daly was also an avid soccer fan who managed Dublin club River Valley Rangers in the late 1980s and 1990s, with one of his former players describing him as 'a fantastic character and a brilliant coach'.
