Andy Robertson's X-rated rant at David Coote in game named by suspended ref in leaked video
David Coote has been suspended pending further investigation after a leaked video in which he allegedly spoke in derogatory terms about Liverpool and Jurgen Klopp
Liverpool defender Andy Robertson found himself in hot water after launching a tirade at David Coote at the end of one of two matches allegedly referred to by the suspended referee in an X-rated video leaked on social media.
Coote, who has been sidelined by PGMOL pending further investigation, mentioned the July 2020 1-1 draw between Jurgen Klopp ’s Reds and Burnley at Anfield.
Robertson had fumed that Liverpool, who would go on to win the Premier League title, were not awarded a penalty as they dropped points at home for the first time all season.
In a rant caught on television at the time Robertson had said: "How’s that not a penalty is a disgrace. How the f*** is that not a penalty? You didn’t see f****** anything.
"You didn’t see anything the whole game apart from f****** booking them in the last minute. F*** me. What’s the point in having you in the middle? What’s the point in having you? F*** me. Honestly."
The other match allegedly referenced in the leaked video appears to be Liverpool’s 7-2 defeat to Aston Villa in October 2020. Coote appears to show an image on his phone of him standing alongside Klopp and substitute James Milner.
Coote then appears to refer to Klopp as a “German c***” in the leaked video and describes a Liverpool performance as “s***.”
He adds: "I've got no interest in speaking to someone who's f****** arrogant. So I do my best not to speak to him. James Milner's alright.
"You can see me there [in a picture on his phone] with a mask on. Got to be careful right, we're social distancing, we're two metres apart. But my God, German c***. F*** me."
It is unclear when the video was recorded.
A statement from refs’ body PGMOL said: "David Coote has been suspended with immediate effect pending a full investigation. PGMOL will be making no further comment until that process is complete." Liverpool and the FA have also been contacted for comment.
