RTE star Claire Byrne has said she does not get paid any extra money for gigs she hosts outside of RTE.

The host responded to an article in the Irish Mail on Sunday yesterday, which revealed through a Freedom of Information request a list of the external activities approved for 10 of RTÉ's top presenters.

In the article, it stated that Ms Byrne hosted five events outside of her radio show.

Taking to social media, Ms Byrne clarified she did not get paid for those events.

She said: "I don't often respond to things that are written about me in the papers or on social media for various reasons but I am going to today, because there's an article in one of the papers, and it's online too, you might have seen it.

"It gives people the impression, I think, that I am earning money outside of my contract in RTÉ, and while it's perfectly within the rules for me to do that if that's what I choose to do, I don't, and that has been my position for the last number of years.

"I've done a couple of charity events over the last 18 months. I did an event in the Gaiety Theatre last month - there's a picture of that in this piece today.

"I did not get paid for any of those. That is my choice. It's within the rules if people want to do that, there's no issue with it, but I have decided not to, and I just wanted to make that clear to you, so that there is no confusion," she added.

The list also revealed presenters Darragh Maloney and Miriam O'Callaghan were topping the list, with 42 and 26 side gigs respectively.
