Before the much-anticipated second series of Bad Sisters drops, viewers are being told to catch up on this 'hidden gem' of a show.

The darkly comic Irish series, which debuted in 2022, is the brainchild of Sharon Horgan, the creative genius behind hits like Catastrophe and Motherland.

Drawing inspiration from the Belgian series Clan, it follows the lives of the Garvey sisters Eva (Sharon), Grace (Anne-Marie Duff), Ursula (Eva Birthistle), Bibi (Sarah Greene) and Becka (Eve Hewson).

The plot thickens when Grace's tyrannical, abusive hubby John Paul (Claes Bang) kicks the bucket unexpectedly, landing the sisters smack dab in the middle of a life insurance probe.

The story weaves between two timelines: one before his untimely demise where Grace's siblings plot to off their despised brother-in-law, and another post-mortem as a dogged insurance detective digs deep to pin the death on them to save his floundering firm, reports the Mirror.

Despite racking up rave reviews from critics and viewers alike, not to mention a spotless 100% score on Rotten Tomatoes, the Apple TV series has somehow stayed off most radars.

But with series two on the horizon, fans are coming out in droves to sing its praises and coax new viewers to give it a whirl.

One enthusiast gushed on X, formerly known as Twitter: "BAD SISTERS ON APPLE TV IS PHENOMENAL. DROP EVERYTHING AND WATCH IT. PLEASE."

Another chimed in: "If you liked Big Little Lies, watch Bad Sisters on Apple TV. It's the same vibes, just Irish,' Kyla recommended."

A third said: "Believe me when I'm saying that Bad sisters by Sharon Horgan on Apple TV is one of the best series you can watch in your spare time. An absolute gem! ".

Plenty of watchers got their 'blood boiling' witnessing JP's egregious behaviour, such as one person stating he's 'certainly one of the best villains ever on TV'.

"Hands down, one of the cleverest, best written, most memorable, and funniest shows on any of the streaming services in recent years," said another fan.

Originally envisioned as a one-off, Bad Sisters returns with its second season next week after being greenlit due to popular demand.

Set two years post-JP's demise, the new chapters find the sisters attempting to resume normalcy until an uncovered secret from the past throws them back under intense public scrutiny, where 'suspicions are at an all-time high, lies are told, secrets revealed, and the sisters must figure out who remains trustworthy'.

Spilling the beans on what's coming up, Anne-Marie dished during her chat on the Dish from Waitrose podcast: "Oh, baby, there's a twist and turn! I can't tell you; I suspect there are snipers everywhere."

Bad Sisters season 2 will premiere on Wednesday, November 13.
