Boy who died in horror hit-and-run in Kildare named locally
The 16-year-old was struck by a vehicle while walking on the R403 in Blackwood in the early hours of this morning
A 16-year-old boy died following a horror hit-and-run collision in Co Kildare in the early hours of this morning.
The teenager has been named locally as Kedagh Moore, who attended Scoil Mhuire Community School, Clane.
He was struck by a vehicle while walking on the R403 in Blackwood, near Robertstown, at around 12.30am. The vehicle involved failed to remain at the scene, as gardaí closed the road for forensic investigations.
The teenager's body was removed from the scene to the mortuary at Naas General Hospital.

A man in his 40s was arrested in connection with the fatal hit and run, and he was detained at a Garda station in Kildare under Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act, 1984.
The fatal accident occurred on a straight road, which is not known to be dangerous.
A local said young Kedagh came from a “lovely, lovely, family” who have been through a lot in the past few years.
Local Sinn Féin Councillor Shónagh Ní Raghallaigh said: “Desperately sad news today. As a mother of 4, I cannot begin to think of the pain his family is experiencing. May his gentle soul rest in eternal peace and sincere condolences to his family and friends.”
Senator Fiona O’Loughlin paid tribute to the young man, saying: “So desperately sad to wake up to this tragic news. A young man on the cusp of adulthood, full of hope and dreams that now will never be realised. Very deepest sympathy to family, friends and the local community.”
Gardaí are appealing for witnesses following the tragedy. A spokesperson said: “They are particularly appealing to those with camera footage, including dash-cam, from the Prosperous, Allenwood, Carbury, and Robertstown areas between 11:30 pm and 3:30 am on 10th November, to come forward.
