Americans are sick of woke nonsense - so ordinary workers voted for Trump instead
Identity politics: you're fired.
Identity politics: you're fired.
That was the message from the US electorate, who chose Donald Trump over the Democrats' obsession with race, sex and gender. All identities that is, but class, the biggest determinant of life outcome of all, and the one that won it for Trump.
Kamala Harris's campaign was riddled with identity politics, and Americans rejected it. The Trump triumph proves voters can see through this phony, condescending, preening distraction from real concerns.

Focus on identity is an indulgence for those who have the time to consider things like gender quotas, pronouns and cultural appropriation.
In the past decade, the gentrified left has decided it's a great idea to segregate everyone, constantly highlight differences, boil everything down to biology or background, and encourage a kind of victimhood Olympics we can all compete in, at various levels, if we dig hard enough.
It's reductive and counter-productive and the exact opposite of what the great Martin Luther King said when he talked of judging people "not by their skin but by the content of their character".
So their bet on Kamala Harris to win against Donald Trump was that women and black voters would vote for her, simply because she's a woman and she's black and Asian. If you didn't agree, you were racist, sexist, and most recently, a fascist, a Nazi, or "garbage".
Even Barack Obama was at it, lecturing black men ahead of the vote, saying, "It's not acceptable" the black community was not supporting her as much as they had him. "Some of you just aren't feeling the idea of having a woman as president. You're coming up with all kinds of reasons and excuses. I've got a problem with that," he said.
Maybe they just didn't think Kamala was a good candidate? Why would her sex have anything to do with it, one way or the other? The confected Puerto Rican scandal, over a stupid joke by a comedian, was another attempt to divide and conquer.
Turned out most people preferred Trump, who made gains across all social groups, including younger voters, black and Hispanic voters, and women.
Meanwhile, the Democrats made a smarmy ad reminding women their vote was private, as though they all secretly wanted to vote for Kamala but were too afraid of their abusive husbands to do so and needed to be coaxed into it like nervous kittens instead of capable grown adults. Another patronising focus was abortion, which was much less important than political elites thought, in an era of 100 percent effective contraception, and more pressing matters.
I've grown to like Trump, who is at least authentic and has a sense of humour.
I thought the iconic "FIGHT" moment - when he stood up with his fist in the air after he was shot - sealed the election for him. Plus he had Elon Musk on his side, the most powerful man in the world, who rails against what he calls the "woke mind virus".
Also, in the land of opportunity, Americans understand more than most that allowing yourself to be victimised just prevents personal progress.
Trump has the savvy businessman's understanding that you have to look after the workers if everyone is to benefit. If the social contract is broken, all hell breaks loose.
We don't fully realise the level of inflation that's crippling citizens in the US. I was in Florida last year and prices there are not far off Switzerland, one of the most expensive countries in the world. I wondered how ordinary people could afford to eat. I realise now: many probably couldn't.
Trump knew they wanted things to change on the price of gas and groceries and a move away from war. Identity politics, woke ideology, stifling political correctness, and victimhood culture have had their day.
