"The Budapest Police Headquarters has listed a 31-year-old American woman as missing, who came to Hungary as a tourist and disappeared from a Budapest nightclub on November 5, 2024," said Hungarian police in an official statement.

"Detectives from the District Police Department noticed several suspicious circumstances in connection with the woman's disappearance, on the basis of which they did not rule out that the American girl was the victim of a crime.

"The police in Terezváros caught sight of a man with whom the missing girl was seen in several nightclubs; was identified, and the 37-year-old Irish citizen was arrested in front of a district apartment.

"Investigators from the Life Protection Department interrogated the Irish man as a suspect for the crime of murder, who gave a statement and also showed the police where he hid the woman's body. He was taken into custody and his arrest initiated."

A spokesperson for the Department of Foreign Affairs told The Irish Mirror: "The Department of Foreign Affairs is aware of this case and is providing consular assistance. As with all cases, the Department does not comment on the specific details of individual cases."
