Micheal Martin enjoys a pint in Dublin pub as leaders canvass Ireland vs All Blacks rugby match
If Irish Rugby fans were keen to forget about November 29’s election before heading to the All Black’s match, they would have been dismayed to see canvassers from Fianna Fáil, Fine Gael and Sinn Féin pounding the pavements up and down Lansdowne Road.
Tánaiste Micheál Martin made a pint of raising his glass to the start of the general election campaign.
If Irish Rugby fans were keen to forget about November 29’s election before heading to the All Black’s match, they would have been dismayed to see canvassers from Fianna Fáil, Fine Gael and Sinn Féin pounding the pavements up and down Lansdowne Road.
Revellers in Ballsbridge pub The Bridge 1859 were joined by Mr Martin, who was enjoying a pint before a canvass with Dublin Bay South candidate Jim O’Callaghan before they made their way to watch Andy Farrell’s men take on the All Blacks.
Mr O’Callaghan even designed posters in the shape of rugby balls in the hopes of winning voters over.

Taoiseach Simon Harris was also out canvassing for Fine Gael hopefuls Emma Blain and James Geoghegan ahead of the kick-off.
Sinn Féin leader Mary Lou McDonald attended the match, but left the canvassing to party activists as outgoing TD Chris Andrews bids to win his seat back.
