One of Gaelic football's most prolific forwards taking a year out of the inter-county game
Heavy scoring forwards are getting increasingly hard to come by but the proposed new rules could alter all that.
Cork boss John Cleary’s attacking options have been hit with the news that he will be without three forwards for the 2025 campaign.
John O’Rourke has retired while Stephen Sherlock and Damien Gore and both taking a year out of inter-county football.
Cleary will also be without powerful midfield man Killian O’Hanlon, who has retired, as he sets out his plans for next year.

Sherlock is a prolific scorer but found himself used off the bench as an impact sub this year.
But as one of Cork’s heaviest scorers he is a big loss. The St. Finbarr’s man started in Cork’s 1-9 to 1-8 All-Ireland quarter-final preliminary round championship exit against Louth but didn’t score against a packed defence.
Wing forward O’Rourke (32), who made his Championship debut back in 2013, was another who regularly found the score sheet for Cork over the years, but his game time was limited this year.
Gore (25) - a former All-Ireland under-20 winner - wasn’t established as a regular, while injury plagued O’Hanlon - a towering presence when fully fit - found himself used mostly as a sub this season.
