Daniel Craig has given a scathing response to the speculation around who could take over his James Bond role.

Though he gained worldwide recognition as the suave spy when he starred in the Martin Campbell film Casino Royale, Daniel Craig clearly doesn't want to get involved in the fierce debate surrounding any of his potential successors.

Once Daniel hung up 007's tuxedo suit, following the release of his fifth and final James Bond film No Time To Die (2021), multiple Hollywood hunks, from Aaron Taylor-Johnson to Henry Cavill, have been speculated to replace the 56-year-old to front the franchise.

However, as more names are being added on to the list of potential successors, Daniel has made it clear he wants no part in the discussion by admitting to a reporter who he would like to see in the role: "I don't care."

Daniel made the confession during an interview with Variety, as he promoted his upcoming film Queer, due for release in the UK on December 13, 2024, with co-star Drew Starkey.

Speaking to The Los Angeles Times in November, 2022, Daniel Craig made it clear his James Bond had to be killed off as he was adamant on moving on to a new chapter in his career. When asked why his version of the spy had to die, he explained: "Two things, one for myself and one for the franchise."

"One, for the franchise, was that resets start again, which [the franchise] did with me. And I was like, ‘Well, you need to reset again.’ So let’s kill my character off and go find another Bond and go find another story. Start at [age] 23, start at 25, start at 30", he added.

He then shared: "The other was so that I could move on. I don’t want to go back. I suppose I should be so lucky if they were to ask me back, but the fact is I need to move on from it. The sacrifice that he makes in the movie was for love and there’s no greater sacrifice. So it seemed like a good thing to end on."

Since leaving the franchise, Daniel has taken on new projects worlds away from MI6. In 2022, he notably starred in a contemporary revival of Macbeth on Broadway. As mentioned, he is also starring in Luca Guadagnino 's adaptation of the William S. Burroughs novel Queer, which premiered at the 81st Venice International Film Festival.

That same year, he reprised the role of Detective Benoit Blanc, which he first took on in the Knives Out film series in 2019, directed by Rian Johnson, for the film's sequel, Glass Onion. He has received two Golden Globe Award nominations for his work.
