Dublin City will be taken over this Sunday with nearly 20,000 runners set to compete in the 2024 Marathon.

The marathon sells out annuals with over 20,000 successful applicants each year and it is certainly a case of all shapes and sizes taking part.

This year will see some unique storylines, with Hollywood A-Lister Colin Farrell competing and one Louth woman running her 1000th marathon.

But, such is the scale of the event, there will be plenty of inexperienced runners in there too.

RealBuzz.com have been in touch with the Irish Mirror and offered us some of their top tips for the marathon.

Here are their top tips.

Invest in comfortable footwear

With most runners set to be on their feet for over four hours make sure to wear comfortable footwear and to break them in before the big day.

Sam Tomilson, a die-hard runner and brand partner with RealBuzz, adds: "Practise your long runs in the same gear you plan to wear for the marathon to ensure maximum comfort on race day.”

Fuel you body

There is no hiding in a 42-kilometre run, and fueling your body will go a long way to helping yourself. You will want a light breakfast two hours out from race time so start mimicking that now in preparation for Sunday.

Don't cram in training

Beginners may want to squeeze in one more long run before the marathon. Race day is only around the corner, take it easy and focus on keeping the body fresh.

Trust the process

It has been months in the making, doing training with long runs, marathon pace runs and interval training. Trust your training.

Visualise success

RealBuzz's final advice is visualise success. The physical work is done and now it's about getting your head right. Break the race into manageable segments and develop strategies for tough moments.
